    Camellia of the Month

    Photo: Jet van Bergen

Jet and Jan van Bergen are particularly proud of 'Laurian Brown', a seedling of 'Lasca Beauty' that Jan hybridized.   It is light pink, with a loose formal double form.  The bloom shown is from a 12-year old plant -- a strong upright grower and, in a semi-shaded position, an excellent  variety for the South African climate, both in summer and winter rainfall areas.

It is one of the camellias growing in the collection he has given to Vergelegen Estate in the Western Cape.  Jan's collection is one of the features of the gardens at the wine estate, which this spring was formally recognized as an ICS Garden of Excellence

Send the ICS website a photo of one of your favourite camellias for our "Camellia of the month" display. Tell us a little bit about it -- where it originated and when, and why you like it!
